The morning rules, and why they exist
Semaglutide is a peptide, so only around 1% of a swallowed dose ever reaches your bloodstream. The tablet relies on an absorption enhancer that works in a narrow window, which is why the label is strict. Every day:
- Take the tablet on an empty stomach, after at least 8 hours without food.
- Swallow it whole with no more than 120 ml of plain water. Not coffee, not tea, not juice.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before any food, other drinks, or other oral medicines.
These aren't suggestions. Break them and you quietly get less medicine, and your results follow. If you take other morning tablets (levothyroxine is the classic clash), talk the timing through with your prescriber.

How long does the Wegovy pill titration take?
About three months to reach the 25 mg maintenance dose. The label says at least a month each on 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg before stepping up. Your prescriber sets the actual pace, and some people stay on a lower dose longer or hold maintenance at 9 mg.
How long does a pack last?
A pack is 30 tablets and you take one a day, so exactly 30 days. Reorder about a week before your last tablet: online pharmacies need time for the consultation check and delivery.
What does the Wegovy pill cost in the UK?

Is the 25 mg pill the same dose as the 2.4 mg injection?
No, and the numbers aren't comparable. Only around 1% of a swallowed semaglutide tablet is absorbed, which is why the pill's milligram numbers are so much higher than the injection's. Same drug, very different routes into your body.
Can I get the Wegovy pill on the NHS?
Not yet. MHRA approval covers safety and effectiveness; NHS funding is a separate decision that needs a NICE appraisal first, and no timeline has been announced. In 2026 the pill is private-only.
