Who they are

Bolt Pharmacy is the trading name of Bolt Healthcare Ltd, an online-only pharmacy in Blackburn, Lancashire. It's closed to the public and works mainly in weight management. A separate company, AIOS Technology Ltd, runs the online consultations and does the prescribing, and Bolt's terms say AIOS is responsible for all clinical decisions.

When we checked the GPhC register on 9 October 2026, Bolt Pharmacy was registered under number 9013085, with no notices or conditions on its registration. The GPhC says it registered in February 2026, so there isn't much track record yet. AIOS Technology Ltd was registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on 23 January 2026, and the CQC hadn't inspected it when we looked.

How the consultation works

Bolt's website describes a short online consultation covering your age, medical history and current medication. A prescriber working for AIOS then looks at everything and decides whether treatment is right for you. Bolt's terms say your height, weight and BMI are checked as part of that, that it includes two-way contact with the prescriber rather than a questionnaire alone, and that you can be turned down without a reason. Your card is only charged once a prescription has been issued. The GPhC's first inspection found gaps in how those details are checked, and there's more on that below.

Delivery and support

Delivery: Royal Mail delivery in plain brown packaging. On the day, Royal Mail may send you a delivery window, usually four hours in the morning.

Support: Messages in your account or the app, which Bolt says are usually answered within 4 hours, any day of the week. There's also phone, email and WhatsApp for non-clinical questions. Bolt says it acknowledges complaints within 2 working days and aims to reply in full within 20 working days.

Good to know

  • The GPhC inspected Bolt Pharmacy for the first time on 28 July 2026 and found that not all standards were met. The report says the pharmacy couldn't fully show that it independently checks people's weight, height or BMI before treatment is prescribed, and that it relied heavily on the information and photos people send in. It also found that pharmacists didn't routinely use the prescribing and verification details when checking prescriptions, and that Bolt's website and social media ads didn't always follow MHRA and ASA guidance. The one area of good practice it named was how the pharmacy plans its staffing.
  • Bolt's improvement action plan, published on the GPhC's inspection site, set 9 October 2026 as the date for its changes. They include extra checks, up to a video consultation, whenever there's doubt about someone's height, weight or photos, and checking those details against people's GP records once NHS England approves that link. The GPhC says it checks progress and inspects again after six months. We'll update this page when a new report is published.
  • On 29 July 2026 the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld two rulings against Bolt. One found that two Facebook ads promoted prescription-only medicines to the public. The other found that Bolt ran a Facebook page called UK Weight Loss Reviews, which looked like an independent review site but was Bolt's own, and that its ads there promoted prescription-only medicines too. Bolt told the ASA it had stopped all ads from that page. That's worth knowing if you're reading reviews of Bolt online.
