Connect Claude to your Healthcount diary
Healthcount is a gentle food journal for people on GLP-1 medicines, and anyone whose appetite has changed. Connect it to Claude and you can ask about your diary in your own words, such as how your week went or what time you usually eat, and ask Claude to add to it, such as what you had for breakfast. Claude can read your diary and add entries. It can never change or delete anything.
What you need
- A Healthcount account. It is free: sign up here.
- A Claude account. Every Claude plan can add a custom connector; the free plan allows one.
How to connect
- In Claude on the web or the desktop app, go to Customize, then Connectors, and choose + Add, then Add custom connector. Name it Healthcount, paste
https://www.healthcount.app/api/mcpand choose Continue, then Continue again. If Claude asks how to sign in, keep Sign in now. If it asks about the OAuth client, choose Register automatically. Then choose Add. If you find Healthcount in Claude's connector directory, you can add it from there instead. - Choose Connect. A Healthcount page opens. Sign in if it asks you to.
- Read what Claude will be able to see and add, then choose Allow. You come back to Claude.
- In a chat, choose the + button, then Connectors, and switch Healthcount on. Then ask a question. Claude asks your permission the first time it reads your diary.
Once added on the web or desktop, the connector also works in the Claude apps for iPhone and Android.
Things to ask
- “Using Healthcount, how did my eating look this week?”
- “What time do I usually have lunch, and which days have nothing logged?”
- “How hungry was I before meals in the two days after my dose?”
- “Summarise the notes I wrote in the last fortnight.”
- “How has my weight changed over the last month?”
- “Which symptoms did I log after my last dose?”
Things to ask Claude to add
- “Log porridge with berries for breakfast.”
- “Add a note: slept badly.”
- “Log my weight, 75.2 kg.”
- “I was a 3 out of 10 hungry before lunch.”
- “Log my 5 mg dose this morning, left thigh.”
- “Log a 30 minute walk.”
- “Log a mild headache this afternoon.”
- “My period started today.”
What Claude can read
- Your meals, drinks and exercise, in your own words, with the times you wrote them.
- How hungry you were before and after eating, and the thoughts you wrote.
- Your notes.
- Your weigh-ins and body measurements. Weigh-ins that came from Apple Health are never shared.
- Your medicine plan, the doses you logged, injection sites and symptoms.
- Simple counts, such as days logged and your usual meal times.
It reads at most 31 days at a time. If you use food journal only mode, it gets no calorie or nutrient figures. A day with nothing written shows as “not logged”, never as a day you did not eat. Healthcount also asks Claude to describe food neutrally, quote your words as yours, and never suggest a dose.
What Claude can add
- Food and drinks, in your words.
- Notes.
- Weigh-ins.
- How hungry you were before and after a meal.
- Doses of the medicine in your plan, and where you injected.
- Exercise, such as a walk or a class.
- Symptoms, and how bad they were.
- Period days, if you use the period tracker.
It can never change or delete anything. Everything Claude adds says “Added by Claude” in your diary, where you can change or delete it. Healthcount asks Claude to check with you before it adds anything, and to add only what you asked for, in your words.
What Claude adds is read the way Healthcount reads a line you type: food goes under its meal, exercise counts just as it does when you log it, a symptom keeps how bad it was, and how you felt stays a note. A period day is added only if you use the period tracker, and talk about a period, such as a worry or a dream, stays a note. It adds the last two weeks only, or a week ahead for planned meals. A dose comes from the medicine plan you set up in Healthcount, and is a record, never advice. If you have said no to AI features in Healthcount, nothing Claude adds is sent to Anthropic for Healthcount's own AI features: Healthcount's own rules read it, and what they cannot read is kept as a note in your words.
Your privacy
What Claude reads goes to Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, under your own Claude account and Anthropic's terms. Nothing is shared until you choose Allow. Our privacy policy has the details.
Disconnecting
In Healthcount, go to Settings, then Connected assistants, and choose Disconnect. Claude stops reading and adding straight away. What it added stays in your diary until you delete it. You can also remove the connector in Claude, under Customize, Connectors.
If something isn't working
- Claude asks you to connect again: choose Connect and sign in to Healthcount. This also happens after you disconnect in Settings.
- Claude says it can't add to your diary: you connected it before it could add entries. In Healthcount, go to Settings, then Connected assistants, and choose Let it add entries next to Claude.
- Claude can't add a hunger reading: log the meal first, and check the hunger question is switched on in your Healthcount settings.
- Claude can't add a period day: the period tracker is on when the gender in your personal details in Healthcount is set to female.
- No calories or nutrients: food journal only mode is on in your Healthcount settings, and the numbers stay out on purpose.
- A weigh-in is missing: weigh-ins that came from Apple Health are never shared.
- Claude can't see older entries: ask about one month at a time.
- Anything else: email anna@healthcount.app and say what you asked and what happened.
