Healthcount Australia

The science of weight loss, in kilojoules

Weight, food, doses and symptoms in one calm record. Australian units, Australian regulatory context, and no pretending the numbers mean more than they do.

What Healthcount does

You write one line about your day. Healthcount does the arithmetic and keeps the record, so that in three months you are not reconstructing anything from memory.

1

Measure

Food, weight, doses and symptoms, logged in whatever words you already use. Energy comes back in kilojoules, the way it appears on the panel of anything you buy here.

2

Understand

A trend line separates signal from the daily wobble that water and salt cause. The numbers are shown as data, not as a verdict on how your week went.

3

Maintain

Drift gets picked up early, while it is still small. If something looks like it needs a clinician rather than an app, we say so plainly.

Australian units, properly

Most tracking apps are built for American or British users and then translated badly. Here is what we do differently.

Energy

Kilojoules

Food Standards Australia New Zealand requires kilojoules on nutrition panels, and the reference figure quoted on menu boards is 8,700 kJ a day for an average adult. That is roughly 2,080 kcal, so it is not a stricter target than the British 2,000. It is the same idea in a different unit. Switch to calories any time.

Weight

Kilograms

Kilograms by default, pounds if you want them, and no stones. Australia is metric and nobody here weighs themselves in stone, so we do not make you scroll past the option.

Language

GP, not doctor

Your medicines regulator is the TGA, not the MHRA or the FDA. Your prescriber is a GP. Urgent health advice is healthdirect on 1800 022 222. Small things, but they tell you whether a page was written for you or for someone else.

One kilocalorie is 4.184 kilojoules, which is the whole conversion. We wrote a proper guide to it, including why the numbers on the panel look so much bigger than the ones you see on overseas websites.

One thing we cannot help with

Everything else on these pages is education, and we have kept it that way on purpose. You will not find affiliate links to pharmacies here either.

If you need help now

For 24-hour health advice from a registered nurse, call healthdirect on 1800 022 222. For an emergency, call 000.

If you are struggling with food, your body or your mood, that is worth saying out loud to your GP rather than to an app. Butterfly Foundation runs a national helpline for eating disorders and body image on 1800 33 4673, and Lifeline is on 13 11 14.

Common questions

Does Healthcount work in kilojoules?
Yes. Australian nutrition panels are labelled in kilojoules, so that is what Australian users see by default. Everything is stored in the same underlying unit either way, so you can switch to calories whenever you like and nothing in your history changes.
Do I have to use stones?
No. Australian users log weight in kilograms, with pounds available if you prefer. Stones are a British habit and they are not used here.
Are Mounjaro and Wegovy approved in Australia?
Both are registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration and both are prescription only. Registration means the TGA has assessed the medicine for a particular use. It does not mean the government subsidises it, which is a separate decision made through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
Does the PBS pay for weight loss medicines?
Not for weight loss on its own, as at July 2026. Semaglutide is subsidised under the brand Ozempic for type 2 diabetes with restrictions. The PBAC recommended listing Wegovy for adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity in November 2025, and that listing had not yet gone live when we last checked the PBS medicine status page.
Why does Healthcount not show medicine prices to Australian visitors?
Australian law limits who may publish the price of a prescription medicine. The price list exception in the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code is for pharmacies, practitioners approved under section 92 of the National Health Act and pharmacy banner groups. Healthcount is a tracking app, so we do not qualify. Ask a pharmacy for a current price.
Is Healthcount medical advice?
No. It is a record of what you did and what happened, so you and your GP have something better than memory to work from. It does not prescribe, diagnose or replace clinical care.

One line a day is enough

Free, no app download, and your data stays yours. If you are on a GLP-1, the record you build here is the thing your GP will actually find useful at the next appointment.
